When actors train, we learn skills that are developed over a lifetime of use. Vocal control and manipulation, holding the attention of an audience, memorization skills, creating and working as an ensemble, how to remain present and in the moment for extended periods, the delivery of text with intent and using a compelling emotional point of view are all part of an actor's training that can be of use to anyone. For ensemble, think team. For delivery of text from a script, think giving a presentation to stakeholders. I have been sharing these essential skills with corporate leaders, college sports teams, college students, sales forces, and actors for over 30 years. My work with Patsy Rodenburg in earning her PRA Certification built upon my prior training, gave it focus, and taught me a new way of sharing it with others. We call it "the work" - eliminating physical and vocal tension and helping others be fully present in their aligned and relaxed bodies so that they can do their job, whatever it may be, with greater focus, efficiency, and connection.
